Super Bowl belief patterns are a great example for any profession. You can take some business lessons away from yesterday's Super Bowl. Yes, you can.
We could talk about momentum shifts, and how critical those are.
We could get into skill, mastery through repetition.
But what I believe is most telling about yesterday's performance is Belief.
See, I heard the commentators sharing a stat several times during the first half:
Only three teams had ever come back and won from a 10-point deficit in Super Bowl history.
My Western mind is a big believer in stats, so I figured the Pats had had it, down as they were by a far greater margin than that.
The Power of Super Bowl Belief
The teams go to their respective locker rooms. The coaches give their speeches.
Now I wasn't in the Patriots' locker room, but I'm pretty certain Coach Belichick's words included something about Belief.
“You can believe”—(as I did)—”that we're done here,” Bill might have said to his players. “Or you can believe something else. You can believe that door is open, that we can take this game back and win.”
I can feel when a team is believing in the gloom of defeat; you probably can, too. And they go on to create that reality, the one where they lose.
Brady and the Patriots could have come up with all sorts of excuses.
The points deficit is too large.
Nobody has done this, ever.
We don't have enough time.
Gosh, the Falcons lead in points for 44 minutes of that game.
Using Super Bowl Belief In Your World
There are always reasons to lose.
But the pros in any profession know it's never too late.
That it doesn't matter if no one has done the thing before.
And that the game isn't over until the pro says so.
The Patriots displayed incredible mindset skill, shifting their belief to Winners and creating that reality as the result late in the game. Remember that it would have been easy for them to give up. No one would have blamed them. All the commentators would have been talking about “the explosive Falcon offense.”
The takeaway for you, here, today, is this:
If you believe you can do something, you have a chance of succeeding. If you don't believe you can do the thing, you have zero chance of winning.
Sounds simple, I know. But how many times have you given up, maybe late in the game...maybe earlier than you should have, and let things lie because that's the Belief you had about them?
That the competition had a better offer?
That the customer must solely be interested in price?
That you simply didn't have time to make more prospecting attempts? When the truth is, that one more connection is the only one you really need?
